All our worktops are measured in millimetres.
Measure the back wall dimensions of the required work surfaces.
Decide upon the depth of the worktops from front to back. Think carefully about the overhang you need on the worktop both at the front and on the ends. Make sure you consider the placement of appliances such as dishwashers and washing machines when measuring the depth, as these sometimes protrude out further than the kitchen units. You need to include the overhang in your measurements. Typically overhangs range from 2 to 4 centimetres but you must decide on your individual requirement.
For irregular walls that are not completely straight and at right angles to each other, the best thing to do is make the worktops extra deep and then scribe in the rear of the worktop on site to match the contours of the wall. For information on how to do this please see our guide to fitting your worktops.
Also note when measuring, that walls may not be 'true' and there may be a slight variance in length from the back wall to the front of the worktop. If this happens in your case, always provide the longer of the two measurements and trim the edge on site if required. For information on how to do this please see our guide to fitting your worktops.
Think carefully about which way you want the worktop joints to run. If possible keep the joints as far away as possible from water and heat sources. The joints will run at 90° except for our special corner arrangement which are at 135°.
In most cases, we will plan joint locations based on the information you provide in the order process. However, you should check these and consider the position of your joints carefully. In the case of a 'U' or 'G' shaped layout when the bottom of the 'U' is tight between two walls, it can be extremely difficult to get a full length worktop into its final position, especially if there are any protrusions on the adjacent walls, such as power sockets, that prevent the worktop being dropped into place. If you require the joints to be in different positions from the plan we provide with your order confirmation, please let us know immediately and we will amend the plan and send you a new one. Please note that all work is carried out to normal wood working tolerances (± 3mm on every dimension).
You should also consider how you wish your ends to be finished. We offer a selection of ellipses, splays and other end solutions to meet your requirements. Feel free to experiment with our exclusive worktop designer to get an idea of the possibilities.
Please let us know if the end of your worktop will be up against a wall or tall housing unit if you want special edging such as wood or acrylic. You can do this on the comments section of the order and we will contact you to discuss the best solution.
